Residents across Georgia who have been enduring the recent hot weather are in for some relief. According to the National Weather Service, while high temperatures will persist through Labor Day, a significant cooldown is expected to follow, offering a much-needed break from the heat.

The Details: The current heatwave has pushed temperatures into the upper 80s to mid-90s across much of Georgia. Cities like Columbus and Dublin have been experiencing some of the highest temperatures, reaching 97°F. This heat is expected to continue through Monday, with Labor Day itself seeing similar high temperatures.

However, starting Tuesday, September 3, temperatures are forecast to drop noticeably. Highs will fall into the upper 70s to mid-80s across the state. For example, Atlanta, which will hit 90°F on Labor Day, will see highs drop to 81°F on Tuesday and continue cooling into the upper 70s by midweek.

In Context: This cooldown is a welcome change after a summer marked by relentless heat. The shift in weather patterns is part of a broader trend expected across the eastern United States. The 6-10 day temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center also supports this cooling trend, showing a likelihood of below-normal temperatures in Georgia from September 6-10.
