Tragic Crash in Putnam County Kills 5 People Including 2 Children. What We Know

The Gist: The early hours of Tuesday saw a shocking car collision on US Highway 441, near the Putnam and Baldwin County border, leaving five people dead, among them a mother and her two small children.

What Happened?: According to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills, Hailey Brooke Hayes, age 22, was driving a 2018 Honda Civic in the wrong direction on the highway, heading south in the northbound lanes.

According to the sheriff’s office, her vehicle crashed head-on into a 2005 Nissan Xterra, driven by 44-year-old Mayla Dostie, who was heading north towards Eatonton. The collision resulted in both drivers losing their lives on the spot.

Hayes’ two children, 8-month-old Tucker Hudspeth and 3-year-old Bentley Barlow, along with a passenger in the car, Zaleigh Adaya Brooks, age 23 also died in the crash.
