A devastating motor vehicle collision in Gwinnett County resulted in the deaths of three people, including a mother and her teenage son, the Gwinnett County Police Department reported.
The incident occurred on Thursday at about 7 p.m., when officers were called to the scene at the intersection of Scenic Highway and Scenic Pines Drive in Lawrenceville. The collision involved a silver Kia Sorento and a white Yahama motorcycle.
According to the preliminary investigation by police, the Kia Sorento, driven by a 37-year-old Loganville mother, was heading north on Scenic Highway and attempting a left turn onto Scenic Pines Drive. At the same time, a 27-year-old Snellville man was riding his motorcycle southbound. Tragically, as the Kia turned, it crossed the motorcycle’s path, leading to a severe collision.
The Kia Sorento was carrying the driver and her two sons, aged 9 and 14. The mother and her 14-year-old son died from their injuries, while the 9-year-old was urgently transported to a local hospital. The motorcyclist also died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Post-collision, both vehicles were impounded for further examination at the Gwinnett County Police Department headquarters. Investigators are currently assessing the incident, with particular focus on the role of speed as a contributing factor.
