A tragic crash on I-285 early Sunday morning resulted in the death of a 33-year-old woman and left two others injured, according to authorities.

The Details: The crash occurred at approximately 3:48 a.m. on September 1, on I-285 westbound near Ashford Dunwoody Road.

According to the Dunwoody Police Department, a white Scion, traveling west, attempted to change lanes towards the Ga. 400 exit ramp. At the same time, a red Ford F-250 was merging onto I-285 from Ashford Dunwoody Road. The two vehicles collided at the bottom of the entrance ramp, causing significant damage to both.

The Scion’s driver and passenger were trapped inside the vehicle, necessitating an emergency response from DeKalb Fire personnel. Despite their efforts, the female passenger of the Scion died from her injuries at the scene. The driver of the Scion was transported to North Fulton Hospital in stable condition. The driver of the F-250 sustained non-life-threatening injuries and did not require hospitalization.

In Context: The Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and has taken custody of the deceased victim. Authorities are withholding her identity until her family can be notified.
