The Gist: A motorcycle crash on North Avenue claimed the life of a 29-year-old Athens resident Sunday.
This is the latest in a distressing series of fatal crashes that have occurred in Athens-Clarke County in 2023, marking the 11th such incident this year.
What Happened?: The fatal crash occurred at 8:45 p.m. when a 22-year-old man from Monticello driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck made a left turn onto North Avenue from Northside Drive. He collided with a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle that was traveling south on North Avenue.
The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
What’s Next?: The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is conducting a detailed investigation into the crash.
