In a peculiar and unfortunate incident, a 75-year-old man from Dalton, suffered severe injuries while attempting to open a bag of potato chips using a lighter.
According to officials, the unusual accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at around 4:30 p.m. at an apartment complex located on Sir Lancelot Place in Dalton.
The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, faced a challenge that many might find relatable, albeit with a drastically different outcome: he struggled to open a bag of chips.
Unable to do so with his hands, he resorted to using a lighter. As he sat in his recliner, attempting to open the bag, the situation took a turn for the worse. The man inadvertently set himself on fire, leading to third-degree burns covering 75% of his body.
The severity of the incident necessitated immediate medical attention. Maintenance workers at the scene quickly took action, using a hose to control the fire that had engulfed the man’s recliner. Following this, he was rushed to a hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Recognizing the extent of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to a specialized burn center.
Potato Chips are highly flammable due to their oil content, a factor that might have contributed to the rapid escalation of the fire in this case.
