The Supreme Court of Georgia says Mableton’s cityhood is here to stay. The court has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the creation of the new city in Cobb County.

🎯 What’s Happening: The lawsuit came from a group of Mableton residents who didn’t agree with how the city was formed. They said House Bill 839, passed in 2022, broke the law by doing more than one thing. It created both the city of Mableton and allowed for new community improvement districts, or CIDs. A trial court threw out the case earlier, and the residents appealed to the state’s highest court.

⚖️ Who Made It Happen: Justice Carla Wong McMillian wrote the court’s decision. She explained that the bill followed the rules because the CIDs were only for the city of Mableton and connected to its charter. She said the law made sense because both the city and the CIDs work together to improve the community.

🔍 Why This Should Catch Your Attention: Many people in Georgia want more local control, and creating cities like Mableton is one way to do that. This decision clears the way for Mableton to grow and serve its residents.

➡️ What’s Next: With this case settled, Mableton leaders can now focus on making the city a better place to live. Residents can expect more progress on local services and infrastructure.
