An infant in Cobb County has become the state’s youngest person to die from coronavirus in Georgia.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, the child was a one-year-old boy with a pre-existing condition.

Prior to the child’s death, the youngest person in the state to die from COVID-19 was a seven-year-old boy from Chatham County with no pre-existing conditions.

Five children under the age of 19 have died from coronavirus in Georgia. In addition to the one-year-old and seven-year-old a 14-year-old girl from Habersham County, a 15-year-old boy from Gwinnett County and a 17-year-old boy from Fulton County have died from the virus.

Georgia now has 265,372 confirmed coronavirus cases, 5,471 deaths, 24,335 hospitalizations and 4,433 ICU admissions. A total of 79 deaths were reported Friday.
