CALHOUN — Voters in Gordon County will be able to drop off their absentee ballots for the June 9 primary election at a new absentee ballot drop box.
The Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office recently installed an “Official Absentee Ballot Drop Box” for voters to use when dropping off their absentee ballots at the Elections and Voter Registration Office.
The box is at the Gordon County Annex Building at 101 S. Piedmont Street in Calhoun.
Voters can deposit their absentee ballot in the secured drop box anytime, even after regular business hours and on weekends.

Why it Matters: Georgia drew criticism shortly after Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger made the decision to send absentee ballot request forms to all of Georgia’s 6.9 million voters because critics of the plan said they believed that since the state wasn’t providing postage on the absentee ballots, the vote-by-mail plan amounted to a poll tax. The drop boxes address that issue and allow voters who don’t have or can’t afford postage an alternative that does not involve human contact during a pandemic.
