Firefighters responded at 6:31 p.m. Saturday to a report from Norcross Police of a fire at the Knights Inn Hotel, at 5122 Brook Hollow Parkway in Norcross.
An officer was driving past the hotel on the way home from work and saw black smoke coming from the building. The officer notified dispatch via radio and began evacuating the building.
Firefighters arrived to find a working fire in a guest room with flames and smoke showing from the single-story structure. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames using tank-water from the primary engine at 6:42 p.m.
The fire caused heavy damage to the room where it started and minor damage to an adjoining guest room. There was extensive smoke throughout the entire structure.

According to fire officials, about 40 people were temporarily displaced from the building until the situation was declared under control and residual smoke was cleared from inside the building.
There were no injuries reported. Power was able to be isolated to the affected rooms and all other guests were allowed to return to their rooms.
Fire Investigators were requested to respond to the scene to assist with origin and cause determination. The exact cause of the fire is undetermined and is under active investigation.
