In a historic occasion on Monday, July 3, 2023, Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham celebrated the birth of its first baby. Proud parents Katy and David Littrell welcomed their beautiful daughter, Maddie Kate Littrell, into the world at 10:38 a.m. The little one weighed a healthy 7 pounds, 14 ounces.

The joyous event took place just three days after Habersham Medical Center joined Northeast Georgia Health System. Guiding the safe delivery was the skilled hands of Dr. Thomas Hatchett, who performed a cesarean section.

Dr. Hatchett expressed his delight, saying, “Maddie’s birth is a momentous occasion for NGMC Habersham and our entire community. With a legacy of 70 years of excellent care, I am honored to be a part of this new chapter. NGHS’s support will benefit not only Katy and Maddie but also countless other patients at NGMC Habersham.”

Katy, who previously delivered her son at Habersham Medical Center, consciously chose to return to the hospital for her second childbirth. Despite recommendations to deliver in Gainesville, she insisted on being close to home and familiar surroundings.

“I wanted to be in Habersham,” Katy emphasized. “Dr. Hatchett and his midwife, Britteny Baron, assured me that the transition to NGHS would not affect the exceptional care they provide. I felt reassured, and thankfully, we didn’t require the NICU this time.”

Katy, having been a nurse at Habersham Medical Center, noticed a difference in the atmosphere at NGMC Habersham. The attentive staff treated her with utmost care, acknowledging the change as a mere computer system update.

“The staff were incredible,” Katy commended. “They remembered my previous delivery complications and went above and beyond to ensure my comfort throughout the process. It was a fantastic experience, and I’m grateful for having such a remarkable local hospital.”
