Georgia drivers are paying an average of $3.81 per gallon for regular gasoline. Filling a 15-gallon tank costs about $57.15.
What changed: The statewide average rose 2 cents in the past week. It is 2 cents lower than a month ago but 92 cents higher than last year.
Averages Explained: The prices above reflect averages across thousands of gas stations statewide, compiled by AAA. That means you may well find gas cheaper — or more expensive — than the figures cited here at a specific station near you. An average is the middle of a wide range, not a price every station charges. If your local gas station is cheaper, great — that station is pulling the average down. We know, math is hard sometimes.
Why prices are rising: Conflict in the Middle East is putting pressure on global oil markets. Crude oil remained above $80 per barrel amid uncertainty near the Strait of Hormuz.
Across Georgia: Atlanta’s average stood at $3.83. Savannah had the state’s highest metro average at $3.88, followed by Hinesville-Fort Stewart at $3.87 and Macon at $3.86. Augusta-Aiken had the lowest average at $3.69, followed by Catoosa-Dade-Walker at $3.71 and Albany at $3.72.
National prices: The national average rose 3 cents during the week to $4.09, despite lower seasonal demand. August was on track to become the most expensive August on record for U.S. drivers. The national record is $5.01, set June 14, 2022. Georgia’s record is $4.49, set June 15, 2022.
Ways to save: “To help offset higher fuel costs, drivers can save money by combining errands into one trip, avoiding aggressive driving, and using the AAA Mobile App to find the lowest gas prices in their area,” AAA spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said. Drivers can also use the AAA TripTik Travel planner to check gasoline and electric charging prices along a route.
