The 7-year-old girl who was shot by a stray bullet while riding with her aunt in a car outside Phipps Plaza has died.

According to local media reports, Kennedy Maxie died Saturday night. A $15,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to the arrest and indictment of those responsible for Kennedy’s death.

Atlanta Police Department officers responded to Scottish Rite Hospital at about 9 p.m. Monday to a call about a child being shot.

At the hospital investigators spoke to Kennedy’s aunt who informed them she had been driving past Phipps Plaza when she heard several gunshots.

The aunt continued to drive and a short time later noticed that her niece was acting strangely. The aunt realized Kennedy had been shot and drove to the hospital where the Kennedy was taken into surgery.

Investigators say Kennedy was shot in the back of the head. They do not believe the Lexus she was riding in was the intended target of the shooters.

Police say there was a dispute involving several men in the parking lot of Saks Fifth Avenue, but could not confirm the gunshots were a result of that dispute.

Information on the case can be submitted anonymously to the Crime Stoppers Atlanta tip line at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or onlineat www.StopCrimeATL.com. Callers do not have to give their name or any identifying information to be eligible for the reward of up to $15,000 for the arrest and indictment of the suspect.
