A man held at the DeKalb County Jail has died, and officials are now investigating.

What Happened: Jail officers found 35-year-old Regis Darnell Jackson unresponsive inside a housing unit Wednesday morning. Staff immediately performed emergency medical care, and DeKalb EMS transported him to Emory Decatur Hospital. Despite treatment, he was pronounced dead.

Who He Was: Jackson, a Macon resident, had been in custody since August 2022 on multiple felony charges.

Ongoing Investigation: The DeKalb County Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause of death. The Sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards is conducting an internal investigation.
