Meet Henry County’s New State Judge: Governor Brian Kemp today announced his appointment of the Honorable Stephen Knights Jr. to fill the vacancy on the Henry County State Court created by the resignation of former Chief Judge David Brown on April 1, 2022.
Knights currently serves as a judge on the Henry County Magistrate Court. Prior to his appointment in October of 2020, he worked in a variety of public and private legal offices. Judge Knights was previously the senior attorney in the private firm of Knights Law Group, Magistrate Court Judge and Pro Tem Judge of the Clayton County Magistrate Court, Senior Litigation Assistant District Attorney in the Clayton Judicial Circuit, ADA in the Griffin Judicial Circuit, and Assistant Solicitor General for Clayton County.
Judge Knights earned a doctorate in criminal justice from Capella University, his law degree from Western Michigan Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and a bachelor of arts in Criminology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He resides in Locust Grove with his wife and their four children.

Lake Sinclair sheriff’s office precinct closed
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Lake Sinclair Precinct located at 1053 Milledgeville Road (U.S. 441 South) is now permanently closed.
“The Peoples Bank graciously allowed us to use that building free of charge since April of 2007, but they have now sold the building to a real estate firm,” said Sheriff Howard R. Sills. “We don’t have another location on the south side of the county to relocate to at this point in time, but there may some possibility for another facility in this area of the county in the future.”
Avondale Estates will hold a 9/11 remembrance ceremony
The City of Avondale Estates will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, September 11 at the Dewey C. Brown Plaza.
The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will include a ringing of the bell at 8:45 a.m. to mark the time the first tower was hit.
On this day, please join the City to honor those who were impacted by this tragedy 21 years ago and mourn fallen heroes.
