Extensive storm damage usually closes or delays school. But in Berrien County, schools were open Monday morning, even though the school system deemed the storm damage too extensive to run school buses.

“After consulting with county officials, yesterday’s storms left extensive road damage in areas within our county. For the safety of our students, the decision has been made to not run school buses to and from school on Monday,” the school district announced on social media.

The school system asked parents to transport students to and from school if they could do it safely.

Children who could not be transported safely will not be penalized for being absent, school officials said. School buses are expected to run on their normal schedule Tuesday morning.
