Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Colbie Young was arrested early Tuesday on misdemeanor charges of battery and assault on an unborn child. The charges follow an alleged physical altercation with an ex-girlfriend, who is pregnant.

Why It Matters: College athletes are often scrutinized as representatives of their schools, and when they face serious allegations like these, it raises questions about institutional accountability, campus safety, and player conduct.

The Incident: Athens-Clarke County police responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute at Young’s residence. According to the police report, Young’s ex-girlfriend visited him, and what started as an argument escalated physically.

• The woman reported that Young grabbed her arm, physically pulled her out of his room, and later squeezed her torso and abdomen with considerable force.

• Officers documented visible bruising and discoloration on the woman’s chest and abdomen. Although she declined EMS transport, she agreed to seek treatment and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Young’s Response: The police report states that Young denied the allegations, claiming he never grabbed or hurt the woman. When questioned about her injuries, he insisted they were not caused by him.

⚖️ What’s Next: Young is currently out on a $2,500 bond, but the incident raises ongoing concerns about athlete conduct and UGA’s response to legal issues involving players. With the case pending, Young’s status with the football team remains unclear, and UGA’s next steps could be a determining factor in how the school addresses such incidents going forward.
