Georgia surpassed the 200,000 case mark for coronavirus Wednesday, adding 3,817 new cases for a total of 201,713.
The death toll and hospitalization rate in the state are also nearing a milestone and stands at 3,984. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, 65 people died from the virus in the last 24 hours and 362 more people were hospitalized. The state has had a total of 19,788 hospitalizations and 3,616 ICU admissions.
Despite surpassing 200,00 cases, the 7 day average for confirmed cases appears to be either plateauing or heading downward. Wednesday’s average was 3,387, compared to an average of 3,743 last Wednesday.
The top five counties for infections in the state are Fulton with 18,996 cases, Gwinnett with 18,550 cases, DeKalb with 12,998, Cobb with 12,489 and Hall with 5,759.
The virus has been most prevalent among residents age 18-29 in Georgia with 48,754 confirmed cases. There were 1,310 hospitalizations in that age group and 30 deaths.
