More details emerge about the death of a 24-year-old who was electrocuted in Lake Lanier

The Gist: A 24-year-old man lost his life after jumping off a dock at Lake Lanier and encountering an unexpected electrical shock in the water.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, the man has been identified as Thomas Milner.

The incident happened near Lanier Beach South Road, Forsyth County.

What Happened?: On July 29, the man jumped off the dock into the water, and was electrocuted.

Sheriff’s officials say Milner entered the water from his family dock and shortly after was heard screaming for help.  A family friend attempted to get him out of the water using a ladder but was unsuccessful.

Neighbors took a boat over to Thomas and one person jumped in the water to help him. That person described a burning sensation he recognized as an electric shock.

The neighbor swam ashore, turned off the power box and re-entered the water ultimately pulling Thomas onto the dock.

Thomas’ uncle began CPR until EMS arrived.

Thomas was taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries the next day.  This case remains an active investigation.

What’s Next?: Officials are working to determine how this fatal incident transpired and to ensure such incidents do not repeat in the future.
