Crisp County is grieving the loss of Deputy Tyee Browne, an esteemed member of the Crisp County Sheriff’s Department who tragically lost his life while on duty.

Browne, a 26-year-old Macon County resident, was shot by a suspect in an act of senseless violence last week.

Today, officers and members of the public mourned and paid tribute to Browne. Below is a video of the procession that was held for the fallen deputy.

According to the ongoing investigation led by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Deputy Browne had responded to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle parked on Highway 280 West in Cordele at approximately 3:40 a.m.

The vehicle was identified as stolen, and as Deputy Browne approached to investigate further, the suspect, identified as Croshawn Cross, opened fire, killing the deputy.

Deputy Tyee Browne will forever be remembered for his dedication, bravery, and unwavering commitment to his community.
