A 71-year-old Alabama man was arrested Thursday in connection with a shooting at a Dade County gas station.

Dade County Deputies were dispatched to a gas station on Deer Head Cove Road on Thursday after a person was shot in the parking lot of the gas station.

According to the sheriff’s office, when Dade County Deputies responded to the scene they found that the aggressor and the victim had both left the scene. The only available information from witnesses was that the shooter was driving a truck that was pulling a utility trailer.

Dade County Road Patrol Deputies saturated the area, attempting to locate the shooter, while Dade County Detectives reviewed video surveillance at the store.

While canvassing the area, detectives located a vehicle at another convenience store located on Highway 11 South that matched the description found on surveillance video from the original incident location.

Upon further investigation, detectives determined that the man they were out with on Highway 11 South, was the shooter from Deer Head Cove Road.

The man was identified as 71-year-old James Forester, of Henegar, Alabama.

He was taken in to custody and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and reckless conduct.

“I am extremely proud of my Road Patrol Deputies and Detectives. They worked together and located a shooting suspect, despite having little to no suspect info, in less than 30 minutes. Their dedication to this community is unmatched,” Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross said.

The victim has still not been located or contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
