57-year-old Georgia woman killed in pedestrian-involved wreck

SAVANNAH — A 57-year-old Savannah woman was killed in a pedestrian-involved wreck Tuesday evening.

The Savannah Police Department is investigating wreck, which ocurred on Ogeechee Road.

Officers responded to the 4300 block of Ogeechee Road around 6:30 p.m. and discovered Mae Helen James suffering from injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

She was transported to a hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed that James was attempting to cross from north to south on Ogeechee Road when she was struck by an eastbound Chevrolet Avalanche.

According to the police department, James was not in a crosswalk at the time she was struck.

The investigation is ongoing.
