Updated: The boil water advisory has been lifted as of Tuesday afternoon, ahead of earlier estimates from the Dept. of Watershed Management.
Original Story: The City of Atlanta is under a boil water advisory that encompasses all city of Atlanta residents and businesses.
Vigorous hand washing or showers with soap and tap water should be safe for basic personal hygiene. However, if washing hands to prepare food, use boiled (then cooled) water along with handwashing soap.
The public should continue to boil their water or use bottled water until the boil water advisory is lifted. The watershed department estimates the boil water advisory will remain in effect until at least 6 p.m. Tuesday.
If you experienced a loss of water at your address but your address is not within the area described, the city also recommends you follow these precautions.
Due to a control issue at the Hemphill Pump Station, located just south of Buckhead, the Hemphill Zone is experiencing no water and very low pressures throughout the zone.
The Department of Watershed Management has called for immediate water restriction to allow the pressure to rebuild in the system once the pumps are restored to service. A Boil Water Advisory is also in effect.
While the city of Atlanta mistakenly sent a boil water advisory phone call to some residents in Gwinnett and other areas outside the Atlanta water system, Gwinnett officials say the water in Gwinnett County is safe for all uses, including drinking.
The boil water notice only affects city of Atlanta water customers; it does not affect Gwinnett County water customers.
Officials note that Gwinnett County’s water system is not connected to the city of Atlanta system. Gwinnett County is not under a boil water advisory.
