A veteran who Georgia State Patrol officials said was “disgruntled with the VA” set himself on fire while he was protesting at the Georgia state capitol Tuesday morning.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, the man used gasoline and fireworks to start the blaze. The explosion was heard at a news conference outside the capitol promoting Georgia’s new hands-free driving law.
State patrol officers who were attending the news conference rushed to the scene and put the fire out.
Linda Stouffer of WSB TV reports the veteran is a 58 year-old from Mableton who is being treated at Grady Hospital with burns over 85 percent of his body.

According to the Associated Press, there were no other injuries due to the explosion and the incident is being investigated by a bomb squad unit.
