Valdosta Police Department Wins Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive

The Valdosta Police Department triumphed over the Valdosta Fire Department in the annual Battle of the Badges Community Blood Drive held on July 17 at the City Hall Annex. This friendly competition, aimed at rallying community blood donations, was organized in collaboration with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, the primary blood supplier for South Georgia Medical Center.

The Valdosta Police Department triumphed over the Valdosta Fire Department in the annual Battle of the Badges Community Blood Drive held on July 17 at the City Hall Annex. This friendly competition, aimed at rallying community blood donations, was organized in collaboration with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, the primary blood supplier for South Georgia Medical Center.

This year’s event saw enthusiastic participation with 101 people registering, including over 25 first-time donors. The drive collected 81 whole blood donations and 8 double donations, totaling 97 units of blood. These contributions have the potential to save up to 291 lives, underscoring the community’s dedication to this life-saving cause.

Donors received custom Team Fire or Team Police t-shirts, enhancing the spirit of camaraderie and community pride. Police Chief Leslie Manahan expressed gratitude to the community, highlighting the event’s importance in fostering unity and collaboration.

The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive remains a crucial event for Valdosta, promoting healthy competition and significantly contributing to the local blood supply.
