Residents in parts of coastal, south central and southwest Georgia face a risk of heat illness Wednesday. Conditions could grow worse Thursday in Glynn and Camden counties.
Wednesday alerts: Inland and coastal areas of Glynn and Camden counties are under a heat advisory from noon to 7 p.m., with heat index values up to 110. A separate advisory covers Seminole, Decatur, Grady, Thomas, Brooks and Lowndes counties from 1 to 7 p.m., also with values up to 110.
Thursday watch: Inland and coastal areas of Glynn and Camden counties are under an extreme heat watch from Thursday morning through Thursday evening. Heat index values up to 113 are possible. The alert listing gives an expiration of 8 p.m. Wednesday, even though the stated watch period is Thursday.
Safety steps: According to the National Weather Service, residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned place, avoid the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Anyone going outside should wear light, loose clothing and limit hard work or exercise to the early morning or evening.
