Speed Limits Lowered on 3 Roads in Milton: Here’s Why

Residents of Milton may notice a change while driving through the city, as speed limits on Batesville, Hamby, and Hickory Flat roads were officially reduced to 40 mph this week. This adjustment is part of a broader initiative to enhance road safety across the city.

The Details: New signs reflecting the reduced speed limit were installed on Thursday. The previous speed limit on these roads was 45 mph. The reduction aligns with Milton’s Local Road Safety Plan, which was adopted in August 2022. The Plan focuses on preventing accidents, preserving the rural character of the area, and enhancing safety for all road users, including drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

By The Numbers:

  • Batesville Road: Located in west Milton, extending to Cherokee County.
  • Hamby Road: Situated in northeast Milton, bordering Forsyth County.
  • Hickory Flat Road: In northwest Milton, also extending into Cherokee County.

These reductions have been officially incorporated into the radar permit, allowing Milton police to enforce the new speed limits effectively.

In Context: This is the second round of speed limit reductions in Milton following the implementation of the Local Road Safety Plan. Earlier this year, similar reductions were made on Bethany Way, as well as portions of Freemanville and Providence roads. These measures are part of a continuing effort to evaluate and potentially reduce speed limits on additional roads across the city.

What’s Next: Milton’s Public Works Department, led by Sara Leaders, will continue to explore further speed reductions on other roads in the city. The department is committed to implementing changes that enhance the safety and quality of life for all residents.
