The Latest: Atlanta Continues to Grapple with Water Outages as Repairs Progress

🚨 The Situation: Atlanta residents and businesses are still feeling the effects of multiple water main breaks that occurred on Friday. City crews have been working diligently to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore water service to affected areas.

🔧 Repair Updates:

  • Repairs have been completed at the water main break site near Joseph E. Boone Blvd and J.P. Brawley Dr.
  • Water service has been restored to critical facilities such as Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the Fulton County Jail, and the Atlanta City Detention Center, as well as many residents, including several senior high-rise buildings.
  • However, crews are still working to repair the broken water main at the intersection of West Peachtree St. and 11th St., closely monitoring water pressure in the line.

🚧 Traffic Impact:

  • The intersection of West Peachtree St. and 11th St. remains closed while repairs are ongoing.
  • Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area due to traffic control measures in place.

⚠️ Boil Water Advisory:

  • A boil water advisory remains in effect for affected areas until the Department of Watershed Management receives clearance to lift it following sampling protocols.
  • Residents can sign up for NotifyATL to receive updates on the water main break and repair progress by texting “NotifyATL” to 888777 or visiting www.atlantaga.gov/notifyatl.

💧 Water Distribution:

  • The City of Atlanta has designated four Atlanta Fire Rescue Department fire stations as water distribution points for residents in need.
