ATLANTA — As part of its ongoing investment in the state, Hyundai Motor Company and Georgia Tech have announced a long-term partnership that aims to advance sustainable mobility, hydrogen economy, workforce development, and smart cities among other areas of cooperation. The collaboration is set to bring numerous benefits to both parties, with more details expected to be revealed in the coming months.

One significant aspect of the partnership is the field-naming recognition at Bobby Dodd Stadium, home to Georgia Tech football. Renamed Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field, this move highlights the growing alliance between Hyundai and Georgia Tech.

Speaking about the partnership, Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera shared, “Like Georgia Tech, Hyundai is a global brand that is synonymous with quality, innovation, and a commitment to advancing technology to make a positive difference in the world. The more we have gotten to know each other, the more obvious the alignment of our values has become.”

The collaboration extends beyond athletics, as Hyundai’s $5.54 billion investment includes the development of the new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America. This dedicated electric vehicle and battery plant, located in Bryan County, Georgia, is expected to create over 8,100 direct jobs. Notably, Hyundai also established a $120,000 STEM scholarship at Georgia Tech when groundbreaking for the site took place in October of this year.

José Muñoz, President and Global COO of Hyundai Motor Company, and President and CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America, talked about the significance of partnering with Georgia Tech. “Proximity to institutions like Georgia Tech was one of the many reasons Hyundai selected Georgia for our new EV manufacturing facility,” Muñoz said. He expressed Hyundai’s enthusiasm for expanding their relationship with Georgia Tech, with plans for student professional development, cooperative work programs, and athletic engagements.

Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field, which initially opened as Grant Field in 1913, holds a special place in the history of college football. It was renamed in honor of legendary Georgia Tech Coach and Athletics Director Bobby Dodd in 1988. While the stadium’s historic Grant Field name will be preserved through a display, the naming rights to the field highlight Hyundai’s dedication to Georgia Tech and reflect the shared values between the two entities.

The athletics partnership between Hyundai and Georgia Tech was facilitated by Legends, a company that has managed corporate partnerships and multimedia rights for Georgia Tech Athletics since 2021.

With this new and dynamic alliance, Hyundai and Georgia Tech are set to pave the way for innovation, technology advancement, and a brighter future for the state of Georgia.
