JACKSON — A large tree crashed across Franklin Street in Jackson early Saturday morning, taking down three utility poles and leaving some residents without electricity.

City officials confirmed the damage around 8:45 a.m., noting that households near Red Devil Hill are the most likely to experience outages while repairs are underway. Police have blocked off the road as power crews begin cleanup and restoration.

Photos from the scene show the tree sprawled across both lanes of the street, with snapped poles leaning dangerously over the road and electrical lines tangled across yards and sidewalks.

The City of Jackson said crews are working as quickly as possible to restore power and reopen the road, but residents should avoid the area until it’s cleared.

What residents should know:

  • Avoid Franklin Street until further notice; fallen wires can still be live.
  • Expect power outages near Red Devil Hill.
  • City crews are on site; no timeline for full restoration has been released yet.

This is a developing story. Updates will be shared by the City of Jackson as repairs progress.
