An elderly husband and wife from Putnam County died Wednesday after their car was hit by a Georgia Power truck. The crash has led to misdemeanor charges for the truck’s driver.

What’s Happening: A fatal crash on Highway 16 killed a local couple Wednesday afternoon. The collision happened at the intersection with Pea Ridge Road.

What’s Important: Sara Abbott, 81, was driving with her husband, James Abbott, 83, when the crash occurred. James died at the scene, and Sara died before she could be flown to a hospital.

The Details: Officials said the Georgia Power truck, traveling on Pea Ridge Road, turned left in front of the Abbotts’ car.

The truck’s driver was taken to a hospital. He will be charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to yield.
