Sheriff’s deputies in Gordon County were dispatched to private property in a rural area near McDaniel Station/Darby Road in southern Gordon County Friday night in response to a report of an aircraft accident.
When deputies arrived they discovered the wreckage of a small ‘gyrocopter,’ a rotary-wing aircraft, in an open field. Gordon County fire/rescue and emergency medical personnel also responded to the scene.
The pilot was taken to the local hospital by private vehicle, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash has not been determined. Deputies notified the Federal Aviation Administration who will conduct an investigation of the accident.
