A 40-year-old man died Saturday afternoon when a train hit him on railroad tracks in Houston County.

What’s Happening: Benjamin Martin was on the tracks near the Flournoy Road crossing in Elko around 3 p.m. when the train struck him. He died at the scene.

What’s Important: Officials do not know why Martin was on the tracks when the train came through.

What’s Next: The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab will perform an autopsy. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what happened.
