Putnam County Sheriff Howard R. Sillis wrote a heartfelt letter to his community urging them to stay home and take the spread of coronavirus seriously. In the letter, the sheriff said he will be petitioning the Putnam County Board of Commissioners and the Eatonton City Council to legally require residents to stay home. The Georgia Department of Public Health posted a notice on its website on the noon update explaining that the increase "is in part reflective of improvement in electronic reporting efficiency from commercial laboratories." The department also noted that the reports often have sparse data, so some details may change.
