Have you ever wondered what to do with all those Halloween candy wrappers?

Well, wonder no more — the national Unwrap the Waves effort includes two drop off locations in Coastal Georgia this year. The locations are Old City Hall in downtown Brunswick and the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island.

Partnering with Juno Beach, Florida’s Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Keep Golden Isles Beautiful, the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and the Downtown Brunswick Development Authority will accept empty candy wrappers Oct. 17 through Nov. 10.

Unwrap the Waves reduces landfill waste and the possibility of discarded wrappers finding their way into local waterways as land litter. The 2021 national effort included 31 community partners and over 730,000 candy wrappers recycled.

The Unwrap the Waves initiative encourages students and community members to get into the “spirit” of conservation by collecting their Halloween candy wrappers and recycling them via TerraCycle.

“Unwrap the Waves provides community members with a means to recycle candy wrappers and raises awareness of the large amount of single-use waste produced from a single holiday,” said Keep Golden Isles Beautiful executive director Lea King-Badyna. “We are excited to partner with the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and the Brunswick Downtown Development Authority to provide the Golden Isles Community with Halloween candy wrapper recycling opportunities this year.”

Drop off locations are open during normal business hours:

Old City Hall – 1220 Newcastle Street, downtown Brunswick (inside lobby)

Georgia Sea Turtle Center – 214 Stable Road, Jekyll (gift shop)
