A crash on Ga. 101 at Doc Moates Road on the morning of August 8, involving a school bus carrying members of the Rome High School football team, has resulted in the arrest of a suspected DUI driver.

The crash occurred around 10:50 p.m. as a Nissan Versa collided with the school bus, causing the bus to overturn and crash into a power pole.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the Nissan Versa, driven by a woman who was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, was heading south on Ga. 101 when it crossed into the northbound lane. The vehicle struck the rear wheel of the school bus, which was transporting the football team to an event.

The impact caused the Nissan to spin out of control and come to a stop on the shoulder of the road, while the bus veered off the roadway, overturned, and hit a power pole before coming to a stop.

Six individuals, including four juveniles, were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
