Meet Gus — Toombs County’s newest four-legged fugitive-turned-local-celebrity. Gus, a donkey with an apparent wanderlust, decided his pen was just a suggestion this past weekend.

Naturally, he saw the great outdoors as his personal playground.

But Gus’s big day out was cut short thanks to Deputies Perez and Colbert from the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office, along with Josh Dixon from the Toombs County Fire Department.

Together, this heroic trio ensured Gus’ joyride didn’t turn into a real-life game of “Where’s Waldo?” for county residents.

After a bit of wrangling — and likely a lot of braying — Gus was safely rescued and returned to his home.
