Brian Kemp announced today that Georgians will get a tax rebate in the coming year.
The rebate proposal will give single tax filers $200 and married couples $500.
“This isn’t the government’s money, it’s yours,” Kemp said. “That money belongs to hard working Georgians.”
Kemp blamed “bad policies coming out of Washington D.C.” for an economy where the rebates are needed.
The state had a tax surplus this year of over $2 billion. Experts have suspected Kemp might initiate a refund after the surplus was announced.
Kemp did not give a timeline for when the rebates would be processed and would land in the pockets of Georgia residents.
