Stacey Abrams is bringing out a heavy-hitter in the Democratic Party as she looks to gain support for her health care plan.

Former president Jimmy Carter will stump for Abrams in his hometown of Plains on Tuesday, when the two will tour Mercer medicine’s new facility in the city.

According to the Abrams campaign, the candidate will use the opportunity to unveil her rural health care platform and to discuss her support of rural medical facilities and rural health care professionals.

Health care is becoming a key issue in the Georgia governor’s race with Abrams strongly supporting bringing Medicaid expansion to the state and her opponent Brian Kemp strongly opposed to the measure, calling it extreme.

The two candidates are set to have their first debate Oct. 23. It will air on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
