Bowties Bar and Grill at 1551 Phoenix Blvd. in Atlanta received an unsatisfactory score after an inspector found food stored at unsafe temperatures, dirty utensils and a black substance inside the ice machine.
What inspectors found: During the Aug. 21 inspection, milk, yogurt, cheese and raw eggs were stored above 41 degrees. Cream cheese measured 70 degrees, butter measured 73 degrees and a kitchen cooler measured 51 degrees. The inspector also found expired milk and yogurt, uncovered food, unlabeled chemical bottles and sanitizer stored near seasonings.
Other problems: The bar hand sink had no soap or paper towels. The restaurant also lacked food allergen training, and its menu did not mark food offered raw or undercooked. The latest inspection report was not posted for customers to see.
By the numbers: The restaurant scored 57, down from 71 in July and 88 in October. Scores of 69 or lower receive a U grade.
What was fixed: Workers discarded the expired food, covered food in the front service area and began using a sanitizer cloth on food preparation counters during the inspection.
The next step: The report set a follow-up inspection for Monday.
