A disturbance between two adults, including a parent with a weapon, happened Thursday in the Hephzibah High School parking lot, school officials said. No students or staff members were involved or hurt.

What happened: School administrators and Richmond County School System Public Safety officers went to the parking lot after the disturbance began. Officers secured the area and detained the parent.

The school system did not say what led to the dispute or explain the other adult’s role. It also did not identify either adult.

The weapon: School officials described the disturbance as involving a parent and a weapon. Information released by the school does not say what type of weapon was involved or whether anyone used or displayed it.

Weapons are not allowed on school property, according to Hephzibah High School. The school said it is taking action under its rules and the law.

School operations: Classes and other normal school operations continued without disruption. School officials said no students or staff members took part in the disturbance.

The information released by the school does not say how close the adults were to students, staff members or school buildings when the disturbance happened.
