Georgia drivers are paying an average of $3.78 per gallon for regular gas after weeks of price increases. Filling a 15-gallon tank costs about $56.70.
What changed: The state average fell 3 cents in the past week and 11 cents in the past month. It remains 88 cents higher than one year ago.
Prices across Georgia: Hinesville-Fort Stewart had the highest metro average at $3.83, followed by Savannah at $3.81 and Atlanta at $3.79. The lowest averages were in Albany at $3.67, Rome at $3.69 and Dalton at $3.70.
Why prices fell: AAA said lower demand and strong refinery production increased gas supplies. Crude oil remained about $80 per barrel amid unrest in the Strait of Hormuz, which AAA said can drive prices higher.
National picture: The national average fell 2 cents during the week to $4.07 per gallon. It stayed above $4 every day in August, which was on track to become the most expensive August for gas prices, topping the record set in 2022.
Finding lower prices: Drivers can compare prices with AAA’s Fuel Price Finder and TripTik Travel planner. AAA also advises checking for a lower cash price because some gas stations charge more for credit card purchases.
