After skipping the 2018 Super Bowl, the Budweiser Clydesdales returned in 2019 with dogs and horses—and an important environmental message!
This ad didn’t air during the Super Bowl but it absolutely could have, if, you know, we knew what was going to happen to the country a month later! In this COVID-19-themed ad released in June 2020, the Budweiser Clydesdales and those adorable Labrador retriever puppy friend reunite at a bar reopening as stay-at-home orders were lifting around the U.S.
This tearjerker of a Super Bowl commercial was released before the Big Game, but its inspirational message still resonates a year later. In the 1-minute-long commercial, we see a Clydesdale attempting to jump a barbed-wire fence, fall and become tangled in the wire. We next see the Clydesdale struggling to stand, much like our nation is struggling to emerge from the darkest days of the pandemic. In the final seconds of the video, the Clydesdale comes galloping back—just like America: “In the home of the brave, down never means out.”
