A South Fulton Police Department patrol officer was arrested for sexually assaulting a person he encountered while responding to a domestic dispute call.
What’s Happening: South Fulton Police arrested 30-year-old patrol officer Micheal Shealey Cockran on charges of sexual assault by a person with supervisory or disciplinary authority and violation of oath of office. The assault happened on the evening of March 21.
What’s Important: According to the department, Cockran responded to a domestic dispute call involving the victim. After the victim left the scene, Cockran tracked them to a different location, where the sexual assault occurred.
How This Affects Real People: Investigators are reviewing all of Cockran’s prior interactions, including footage from inside his patrol vehicle, to determine if there are any other victims. Anyone who believes they may have had an encounter with Cockran or has relevant information is asked to come forward.
What We Know: Cockran is in custody and has been relieved of his duties. Detectives are conducting a full review of all available evidence. Investigators have made contact with the victim.
