A gun went off inside a Walmart in Ellenwood on Wednesday afternoon, sending a bullet ricocheting through the store and grazing two people.

What happened: At about 4:47 p.m., a firearm was accidentally discharged inside the Walmart on the 2000 block of Anvil Block Road. Clayton County police officers were already at the store when the shot rang out. The store was evacuated while officers secured the scene.

One person was treated at the scene for a graze wound. A second person later told investigators he had also been grazed but turned down medical help. Neither injury was life-threatening.

What investigators found: Surveillance video and witness statements pointed to Quentendou Arnold as the person who accidentally fired the gun. After the shot went off, Arnold left the store. Officers later found him and took him into custody without a struggle.

A second person, Demonta Arnold, tried to interfere with the investigation by giving police false information and tampering with evidence, according to investigators.

The charges: Quentendou Arnold faces three charges: reckless conduct, obstruction, and making false statements. Demonta Arnold faces one charge of obstruction.

What’s next: The investigation remains active, meaning additional charges or new information could still emerge. Under Georgia law, reckless conduct involving a firearm can carry serious penalties, and obstruction charges can apply to anyone who knowingly interferes with a police investigation.
