A Gwinnett County woman was rescued from abduction by police Friday. Her abductor then attempted to escape, ramming several Gwinnett County Police cars in the process, police say.
Gwinnett Police Department officers responded to an abduction call in the area of Duluth Highway and Riverside Parkway. The caller said his girlfriend might be in trouble after she never returned from an errand she had run.
During this time the boyfriend received an alarming phone call from the victim where only audio was heard. The information obtained over the phone indicated the victim was in immediate danger.
The boyfriend began tracking the victim’s phone and the information was passed on to officers in the area.
The suspect vehicle was located on Duluth Highway heading west bound near Purcell Road. Police attempted a traffic stop and the suspect initially complied. The victim exited the passenger side of the vehicle unharmed.
According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, once the woman left the car, the suspect, identified by police as 23-year-old Jinsuk Pei fled the traffic stop in his vehicle and hit a patrol car. While the pursuit continued Pei rammed two additional occupied patrol vehicles putting the officer’s safety in danger.
One officer fired multiple rounds at the suspect vehicle, but Pei was able to flee on foot with minor injuries. After a track by Gwinnett County K9 officers the suspect was located and taken into custody without incident. Gwinnett County police say K9 officer Nitro found Pei in the woods.
Pei is charged with Kidnapping, Obstruction, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, and Interference with Government Property.
No officers were injured during the incident. The victim, a 22-year-old Duluth woman, sustained minor injuries.
