Hostage situation in Newnan after dad assaults his 14-year-old daughter

NEWNAN — A 14-year-old girl got out of a Newnan home Tuesday night after witnesses said her father assaulted her and kept her inside as a hostage, according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies later arrested Jeremy Head at the home in the 2700 block of Highway 154. The sheriff’s office said the girl escaped after Head fell asleep.

What happened: Deputies went to the home about 4:23 p.m. Tuesday because of a domestic dispute, the sheriff’s office said. Witnesses told deputies that Head had physically assaulted his 14-year-old daughter and was holding her inside the home.

Deputies tried to contact anyone inside the home while they kept watch around the property, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office activated its SWAT unit and its drone unit.

Hostage negotiators were involved, and the girl got out of the home about 8:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.

What happened next: After the girl got out safely, SWAT members went inside and took Head into custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

Head was booked into the Coweta County Jail.

The charges: The sheriff’s office charged Head with false imprisonment, battery under Georgia’s Family Violence Act, cruelty to children, two counts of terroristic threats and acts, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and obstruction.
