TIFTON — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has made an arrest in the shooting of a 1-year-old Tifton boy.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Tift County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22-year-old Dewayne McClatchey Jr. in the accidental shooting of 1-year-old Mason Jordan Foster in Tift County.

According to the GBI, in the late evening hours of Oct. 8, Tift County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 100 block of Apricot Street in Tifton, in reference to a report of a child being shot. Once deputies arrived, they discovered Mason Jordan Foster suffering from a gunshot wound.

The child was flown by helicopter to a children’s hospital in Tallahassee, Florida where he is currently listed in serious condition.

According to the GBI, Investigators learned that McClatchey was present at the residence at the time of the shooting and was taken into custody near the incident location.

McClatchey is charged with Reckless Conduct, Cruelty to Children in the 2nd Degree, Tampering with Evidence, and Giving False Statements.
