A Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy, 35-year-old Zachary Billings, has been arrested on charges of criminal trespass and violation of oath of office.

Billings is accused of unlawfully entering a home off Lakeview Terrace in Jefferson while on duty. The incident occurred on August 27, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to handle the case the next day.

Billings turned himself in at the Jackson County Jail without causing any further disruption. Once the investigation by the GBI is completed, the case file will be submitted to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for a thorough review.

According to the GBI, Billings was on duty at the time of the alleged trespass.

This arrest serves as a reminder that even those sworn to uphold the law are not exempt from it. As the case transitions to the hands of the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for review, the community is awaiting further details and due process.
