MABLETON — A dispute between two men in Mableton on Monday afternoon escalated into a fatal shooting, leaving one dead and another injured, according to Cobb County police.

The Details: Officers responded to a call on Denny Lane around 2:11 p.m. on August 26, where they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Police identified the victims as Stephen Hulsey, 65, and David Brooks, 34, both residents of Mableton.

Hulsey sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, while Brooks was found with multiple gunshot wounds. Both men were rushed to Cobb Hospital, where Brooks died to from injuries. Hulsey remains hospitalized.

What Happened: According to police, preliminary investigations suggest the shooting began as an altercation between Hulsey and Brooks, which quickly turned violent, resulting in the shooting. The specific circumstances leading to the conflict are still under investigation.
